In parallel with launching their budget video label Mastervision, Mastertronic also dipped their toes into the world of music in 1987 with Mastersound. The range comprised of a series of themed compilation albums, released on vinyl and cassette and distributed through their usual channels.
As with Mastervision, the label was the brainchild of Geoff Heath who took on the label as one of his personal projects in the company. To keep licensing costs down, the tracks weren’t the original recordings of the well-known songs. Instead Mastertronic opted for the more cost effective re-recorded versions. These were often re-recorded at a later date either by the original artists or recorded by some or most of the original band members. This practice was common and is still done to this date.
Only 9 releases were produced and are amongst the rarest titles in existence for Mastertronic collectors. We have only seen a handful of releases ourselves and while we know the names of them all, we have yet to verify the catalogue numbers for each of them.

Notes
The following titles are known, but we don’t currently have details of what their catalogue numbers are, or what format they were released on:
- Heat Of Country
- Heat Of Folk
- Heat Of Rock n Roll
- Heat Of The 60s
- Heat Of The Night
To the best of our knowledge, only Heat Of Soul Volume 1 was released on vinyl. The rest of the range seems to be cassette only.
