If you’ve been a regular reader of all the checklists on our site, you will have noticed that there are gaps on most of them. In a lot of cases, Mastertronic either cancelled games prior to release, some games were exclusive to specific territories or there were simple mistakes with numbering as was the situation with the MAD range where three games ended up with the same number, leaving gaps elsewhere. But when it came to the Ricochet range, there were four gaps in what seemed to be a fairly stable label…
We had managed to identify three of these – some that had been moved to the main Mastertronic range at the last minute, and others that were advertised as being part of the Ricochet range but for some reason didn’t end up with the Ricochet branding. But there was still one elusive title. Until today.
By pure chance, one of our team members Brian had been checking through his collection and found one of his ZX Spectrum games with a Ricochet label. On further checking, more copies of this exist online both in this ZX Spectrum/Amstrad flippy release and it’s Commodore 64 counterpart. While other copies of this re-release are available with Mastertronic cassette labels, the high percentage of copies out there with Ricochet labels would give it a clear indicator that this too was planned for the Ricochet label.
