Press Coverage – Tronix Budget Label Launched – 1991

A few months after Virgin Mastertronic divested its Sega distribution business back to Sega Japan, in the summer of 1991, the company rebranded budget games using the name Tronix. This ad, also using the Well ‘Ard theme, shows prices of £3.99 for the 8 bit versions of games we originally released at full price, thus marking the end of the true budget era. The whole thing is shown as part of Virgin Games. A very similar ad was in Amstrad Action, Feb 1992 but it took till the next issue for that magazine to notice, as shown in the second press cutting below.
